The FM transmitter for the up-to-date traffic reports does need to be positioned fairly close to your stereo unit to receive reliably, but that should where most people would mount their Nuvi in their car anyways. If you want a trustworthy product that works, Garmin has yet to disappoint with their line of high quality and highly acclaimed GPS products.
